5 SCOTLAND STREET, EDINBURGH
You would think that a property perfect for acting as backdrop in films would have to be completely out of the ordinary. But this very typical main-door flat in Scotland Street, Edinburgh, may leave some property viewers with a sense of déjà vu because it has been used by various film production companies as the setting for several television adverts.
In addition, the well-known actor, Mark Strong, currently starring in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy, filmed in the flat for the noir-ish Channel 4 tv drama, Low Winter Sun, which was set in Edinburgh.
The shoots occurred after the owner, Jennifer Trussel, registered the flat with a company called Film Focus after reading an article about how film producers sometimes preferred real properties rather than studios for their indoor locations. Jennifer said: “For the shoots for Low Winter Sun, the production company created a dream scene in the entrance vestibule, where they had a glitter ball suspended from the ceiling and the lighting was all orangey/pink, they also simulated rain at the front door, all very exciting at the time.
“Because it is on the ground floor and has a wide main door, the flat appeals to film companies as they have so much kit they need to bring in and also so many people, even just to shoot a three-minute ad.”
The property is located in Edinburgh’s New Town and the main accommodation comprises: double main door, large entrance vestibule, spacious drawing room, separate dining room, fully fitted kitchen, two double bedrooms, bathroom and dry-lined cellar.
And that big front door which equals small-screen fame.
