D.J. Alexander, the Scottish residential rental agency, has a long history of finding luxury homes for English and foreign professional footballers playing in the SPL.
Now it transpires that the first two clients of the firm’s new office in Dubai were both former England international footballers – Ray Clemence, the ex-Liverpool and Spurs goalkeeper and Andy Cole, the former Arsenal and Manchester United striker who, at 36, is still playing in the Premiership with Portsmouth.
Both own luxury investment properties in Dubai’s exclusive Palm district – and these have been let out by Alexanders at “substantial” rental rates.
Speaking from London, where he is currently in the process of setting up his company’s fourth office, David Alexander, proprietor, said: “We are delighted to have kicked off in Dubai with two famous names from the world of football as our first clients. There is a slight difference, however, in that footballer clients in Scotland are usually tenants whereas Ray and Andy are property owners letting out through us.”
Just to complete the football jigsaw, the Alexanders director given responsibility for launching the Dubai office is Paul Chalmers – whose father, Steve, scored the winning goal for Celtic against Inter Milan in the European Cup final in Lisbon 40 years ago.
