By JENNY SHIELDS. Renting a property has much to recommend it. But somehow the concept is still something we Brits find hard to embrace with enthusiasm.
Unlike our continental cousins, for whom it is the norm and who find our obsession with climbing up the property ladder odd, we remain to be convinced.
Too many of us, it appears, equate a rented home with something tatty from our student days.
However, the uncertainties of the property market in the last year or so have meant that renting has become sensible option for several sorts of buyers, particularly those who are in the enviable position of being cash buyers and are simply waiting for the right property to hit the market.
Then there are those, usually in the corporate sector, who want something prestigious in which they can entertain and impress.
On Albany Street, in the heart of Edinburgh, stands a very swish townhouse, which is so spacious it feels like a country house.
With a living room, drawing room, large dining kitchen decorated in shades of cream and green and five double bedrooms, this is a serious contender for anyone who wants an impressive home.
Expensively and smartly decorated there are some lovely features as befits a property in the New Town, such as floor to ceiling windows, high ceilings, decoratve cornices, a broad entrance hall and a sweeping staircase.
A rental of £2,000 per calendar month has been set by D J Alexander, the letting agent.
