Why Craig Mitchell, Head of Sales & Lettings, is our inspirational man this International Men's Day.

How do you try to be a role model for those in your team?
I really believe culture is so important in this industry. With a lot of moving pieces and challenges every day, we really need our offices to be positive and driven. Demonstrating that commitment, not only to our clients, but also to our colleagues, is something I try to demonstrate and promote.

What inspired you to start a career in property?
I started private investment back in 2014, which kick-started my route into property. I worked in Finance Auditing at that stage of my career; however, the property bug quickly took over, which resulted in me joining DJ Alexander in 2019.

How has your journey with your brand evolved so far?
It’s certainly been a fast-paced journey from 2019, navigating a lot of different challenges and changes along the way. Joining the Property Management department in DJ Alexander (Edinburgh office) in 2019 has progressed into overseeing Scotland’s North East region today.

What do you love about your job?
There are many things I enjoy about my job, but I won’t name them all. The biggest passion and motivator right now is the excitement and opportunity of growth within DJ Alexander throughout Scotland, and making sure we deliver that successfully.

What advice would you give to younger people entering the property industry?
Always make sure you listen and understand the clients’ individual needs on their investment. All landlords/investors are different.

How do you take care of your physical and mental well-being?
Being a former professional athlete, sport and physical activity are always high on my agenda. Keeping physically active helps me recuperate and mentally switch off, which I believe is paramount in maintaining high performance.

Do you have a particular moment or accomplishment you are proud of?
Many junctures and projects come to mind; however, when taking over the North East of Scotland in 2024, I never envisaged how much progress could be made in such a short period of time. It’s testament to every member of staff within that region, how much the DJ brand has grown, and it’s a journey everyone should be proud of.

What's a fun fact about you?
In my younger years, I was a professional Ice Hockey player and won a Gold Medal at the Under-20 World Championships.
